Ever & Again: Rethinking Recycled Textiles is a research project that I am part of at Chelsea College of Art & Design.
Eleven textile designers were asked to look at how to create 'upcycled' textiles, while also considering several eco design concepts such as ethical production, new technologies and short/long life textiles.
In Love & Thrift, I explored the notion of durability: both in a material sense, using recycled PVC to coat old textiles, and in an emotional sense, where pre-loved household textiles are protected and re-used. Working closely with an industrial plastic coating company, vintage tableclothes were coated with recycled PVC and made into a 'long-life' waterproof coat.
I also produced several samples of pre-loved textiles which have been overprinted and stitched.
